Musicianship and Education

You’ve decided you want to be more of a part of the music you enjoy.

Congratulations! You may not realise it right now, but you have taken an admirably big step

Deepening your relationship with music through playing or listening to an instrument is a wonderful thing. Welcome aboard!

Enjoying your craft

That’s right - because it’s YOURS
It is essential you enjoy whatever you choose to do.

Everything we do should be because we love it. And why not. Sadly, the world isn’t quite like that. One day… Until then, let’s do what we want with music.

Everything in my educational and mentoring will be driven by you and what you can to create and achieve.

Learn the saxophone

May I first of all congratulate you on an excellent choice. I often hear ‘oh, I used to play the…’ with varying degrees of sadness. I can say hand on heart that I have never heard that about the saxophone.

Everyone’s learning styles are different and will need individual care. Online lessons seem to be the default for a lot of things now - even for introductory lessons. However, if you have never picked up a saxophone before I do believe this would not be the best option for you. There are huge advantages of playing music in the same room as others and online lessons for an absolute beginner just can’t replicate this.

I specialise in working with who I like to call 'returners' - those who played in a previous life but no longer do and want to get back to music in some way.

I provide a nurturing, safe environment where we can beging to reignite that creative spark.

Taking something up again can be daunting and you may feel anxious or doubtful of your ability. So even if you're not 100% committed to relearning or more tempted by dipping your toe back in for now, get in touch to organise a free consult and we can take it from there

Music theory and general education

To progress in some aspects of musical learning, some theory knowledge is needed. This often sounds like complete gobbledegook but is often related to things you already know - it might just not have a name for it.

I offer music theory as well as coaching and mentoring. Theory can be for particular NZMEB exams or part of general school music education. These are available online.

"Oh Simon! What did you do to us?! We were a bit shy, very unconfident but you just got what we needed to enjoy our music. I know we were a nightmare at times and even though it didn’t seem comfortable for you, we needed that kick. Thank you so much for your time and dedication to directing the band. You are very missed."
